Ops Center Protector version 7.7 introduced several new features for data protection and availability including the capability to allow snapshots on the tertiary site in a global-active device (GAD) 3DC with failover environment. This blog shows you how to configure the setup so that snapshots work in this type of environment.   The 3-2-1 backup is an ever-green backup and recovery method that ensures data is protected and available when needed. The basic concept of this strategy is having three copies (one primary and two backups) of the production data. We can achieve this with a 3DC setup with failover. However, there could be a scenario where ...

With the introduction of VMware vStorage APIs for Data Protection (VADP) restore over SAN with Ops Center Protector v7.6, protected VMs can now be restored using VMware SAN as the transport mode. This method can efficiently pass virtual disk data between a VM and the proxy because no data traverses the LAN. Our objective is to test: ·        Data Protection policies combined with data flow diagrams to automate local backups and replications for end-to-end data protection using VMware SAN transport mode. ·        Recovery Solutions to revert production VMs to a specific point in time and create copies using VMware SAN transport ...

We have witnessed a variety of trends over the years, but one element remains constant, we all operate on data. As data requirements become more infused into every aspect of our professional and personal existence, data protection is rightly top of mind. In fact, so much so, that regulators have taken an aggressive approach:  first, putting into place guidelines around personally identifiable information, and second, as we enter 2024, moving toward expanding regulation to the protection of all data from cyber threats. While data becomes imperative to our daily operation, the availability and protection of this data becomes critical for companies propelling ...

Today, data is the key to everything; if we aren’t protecting our data, we aren’t doing enough. Even when we protect our data, we must ensure that it’s backed up correctly and that we can restore it when required. At Hitachi, we’re attempting to achieve something similar for our Ops Center applications. Until now, we could back up and restore individual Ops Center applications using the command line. However, with Protector 7.7, we can now schedule backups of the Ops Center products and restore them using the UI. This blog shows how to back up and restore Ops Center applications using Ops Center Protector. These applications include Administrator, ...

As the collaboration between Cisco and Hitachi continues to expand, Virtual Storage Platform (VSP) storage administration capabilities from Intersight Cloud Orchestrator (ICO) have grown, enabling it to handle a majority of tasks that were previously exclusive to native Hitachi management tools, such as Hitachi Storage Navigator, Ops Center, or Unified Compute Platform Advisor. Many customers will benefit from the saved time and improved usability when using Cisco Intersight, providing a single pane of glass to manage not only their compute and virtualized resources but also their underlying storage, with the added advantage of automation workflows ...

To make sure that the introduction of SVP3A doesn’t degrade the performance of common storage management tasks, we measured the performance of a set of common storage management tasks by using Storage Navigator. This blog illustrates the performance of Storage Navigator running on the new, enhanced SVP3A hardware compared to the performance running on the existing SVP3 hardware.   Test Procedure   To ensure that there was no performance degradation between SVP3 and SVP3A, we performed a common set of storage management tasks using Storage Navigator on SVP3 and SVP3A with the default configuration and with a modified configuration. ...

Easy FC-NVMe Provisioning in Ops Center Administrator 10.9.3   Ops Center Administrator v10.9.3 includes a new feature for managing FC-NVMe resources and FC-NVMe provisioning. Usually, the NVMe concept comes with many things like subsystem, namespace, NQN, and so on, which can cause confusion. However, Administrator does its magic by hiding these internal complexities from end users by managing them internally. In this blog, we’ll discuss how easily a storage administrator can provision volumes to an FC-NVMe resource by using Ops Center Administrator v10.9.3.   This blog consists of the following sections:   ·        NVMe architecture ...

Reverting from a Hitachi HA820 server to an HPE DL380 Gen 10 server Sou Saechao Hardware Test Engineer   Software Integration Solutions Introduction Recently, I had a server that was converted from an HPE DL380 Gen 10 to a Hitachi HA820 for testing purposes. Now I have a problem because the HPE iLO Advanced license that we purchased with the server is no longer active and cannot be added. To solve my problem, I worked with HPE support team to revert the server back to an HPE DL380 Gen 10 with the original iLO Advanced license. In this blog, I’ll go over the steps we completed to make this happen. First, you can see the iLO ...

Data Reliability Engineering After the first wave of a deluge of big data projects a few years ago, we now have an even bigger pipeline of data modernization projects. With modernization and cloud migration projects, the analytical framework needs to run on accurate and reliable data. Data Reliability Engineering ensures that the data systems are reliable, available, and performant. In this technical document, I discuss the concepts of Data Reliability Engineering (DRE), my thoughts on what are its architecture components, principles, and metrics, and explain Hitachi’s DRE service offering which ensures the data can be trusted and acted upon in ...

Moving a CM-REST Server to a Clustered Environment   Because Configuration Manager API (CM-REST API) is a commonly used management tool, it’s always a good idea to run it from a clustered environment to avoid any disruption. However, it’s also a challenging task for a customer to move their entire existing API environment from a non-clustered environment to a clustered environment instead of deploying a new API environment in a clustered environment.   In this blog, we’ll provide details for moving an existing API environment (Hitachi Ops Center API Configuration Manager) from a non-clustered environment to a clustered environment using the ...
